Presented by: Paula Kenny
Description: The first talk titled "Hooked Mats: More than a Place to Wipe Your Feet" will be delivered in English by Paula Kenny of Charlottetown. It will focus on the tradition of rug rugs in Prince Edward Island. Paula is a member of the team that traces and documents the old carpet made in the Island for the PEI Rug Registry. In her presentation, she will show and comment on photos of many of the 900 hedge carpets that have been located on the Island to date. She will also explain how artistic creativity, recycling and home economics were once linked to the production of these carpets. Members of the Island Matters "hoequeuse" group will demonstrate the making of the rug.
