Internship for Archive Technician at the Acadian Museum

 

L’Association du Musée acadien is looking for an intern to work as an Archive Technician from Sept. 2025 to March 2026. Among their tasks, the person will: sort and organize records; write up fonds descriptions and finding aids; scan images and documents; help researchers; and all other related tasks.

 

Since funding is from Young Canada Works, the candidate must:

- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada;

- be legally entitled to work in Canada;

- be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment;

- be a graduate from college, CEGEP or university; and

- be registered in the Young Canada Works online candidate inventory.

 

Most of the work will take place in French (approximately 90%) but the person must also have an advanced level of English, both oral and written. The hourly rate is $21.50 for 37.5 hours per week.

Chief Interpreter

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Chief Interpreter will welcome visitors and provide orientation of the Acadian Museum of Prince Edward Island.

Job duties include:

  • Greet visitors and provide information about the site and available activities:

  • Learn and deliver guided tours;

  • Learn and share knowledge about the Acadian history and culture of Prince Edward Island;

  • Assist the Site Manager and the Education and Programming team in developing new programming;

  • Assist in providing training to all tour guides;

  • Supervise tour guides;

  • Supervise all staff in the absence of the Site Manager and Curatorial and administrative assistant;

  • Provide excellent customer service in the gift shop – selling admissions, inventory, memberships and season passes;

  • Ensure an excellent visitor experience at the site using customer services best practices;

  • Execute cash, debit and credit transactions using a cash register/Shopify and balance daily cash;

  •  Price and replenish merchandise in the gift shop and keep all stock presented in a pleasing manner;

  • Assist with record keeping of inventory in the Gift Shop and monthly balance sheets;

  • Monitor visitors to ensure their needs are being met and that they are following all safety precautions and museum regulations;

  • Conduct visitor surveys;

  • Assist with marketing and promoting programs and events;

  • Assist in delivering programming and special events throughout the season;

  • General cleaning and maintenance of facility and grounds;

  • Work with Site Manager and Collections team to ensure the correct handling and care of all artifacts on-site and the proper care and maintenance of the building;

  • Assist in setting up and taking down exhibitions;

  • Act as the Occupational Health and Safety Officer for the site; and

  • Other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school diploma or GED

  • Customer service and cash handling experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Other Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is essential, the Acadian Museum of PEI is a provincially designated bilingual site

  • Basic knowledge of Acadian history and the PEI Acadian community is essential

  • Previous tour guide experience considered an asset
